Is Sun Bum reef safe?
MIXEDPack Mineral SPF 30 or Mineral SPF 50 for Maui. Original lotion, Original spray, and Kids SPF 50 Clear fail Maui. Palau still fails both Mineral lotions.
MIXED here means one bottle fails Maui or Palau and another does not. A zinc lotion can still show mixed on HEL if the brand never printed nano or non-nano.

Fragrance-free. Palau fails on phenoxyethanol. Non-nano comes from Sun Bum's product Q&A, not this panel.
What this means
Original is the yellow bottle most people already own, and it is a chemical mix. The spray and the Kids SPF 50 Clear lotion are too. Those fail Maui even when the front says Hawaii Act 104 Compliant. Mineral SPF 30 or Mineral SPF 50 is the Maui bottle if zinc oxide is still the only active. The mix-up is the Act 104 stamp. That stamp only means no oxybenzone and no octinoxate. Original still has octocrylene, so Palau and the US Virgin Islands fail it too. Mineral is still not the Palau bottle. Palau fails both Mineral lotions on phenoxyethanol. Sun Bum says its zinc and titanium products are non-nano in product Q&A. That sentence is not on these Drug Facts panels.

Palau and the US Virgin Islands are in this table too. Maui and the Big Island use the same mineral-only rule.

FAQ
Is Sun Bum reef safe?
Mineral SPF 30 and Mineral SPF 50 are zinc-only, so Maui is legal. Palau fails those lotions on phenoxyethanol. Original lotion, Original spray, and Kids SPF 50 Clear fail Maui on chemical filters.
Is Sun Bum Original OK in Hawaii?
On Oahu, Kauai, and Molokai it can be sold under Act 104. On Maui and the Big Island, Original is a chemical sunscreen and is not legal to sell or use without a prescription.
Is the mineral line different?
Yes. Mineral SPF 30 lists zinc oxide 14.7%. Mineral SPF 50 lists zinc oxide 20%. Confirm the tube says Mineral, not Original or Kids.
Is Sun Bum Mineral non-nano?
Sun Bum's product Q&A says its zinc and titanium products use non-nano particles. That sentence is not on the Mineral SPF 30 Drug Facts. Palau still fails this lotion on phenoxyethanol.
Is Sun Bum spray reef safe?
Original SPF 30 Sunscreen Spray is in the table. If yours is a different spray, paste the actives into the checker.
