Is Banana Boat reef safe?

MIXED

Kids Mineral Protection is legal on Maui if zinc and titanium are still the only filters. Palau still fails that lotion. Do not pack Sport or Ultra Sport. Simply Protect says mineral and still fails Maui.

MIXED here means one bottle fails Maui or Palau and another does not. A zinc lotion can still show mixed on HEL if the brand never printed nano or non-nano.

Maui / Big Island. Pass: Kids Mineral Protection SPF 50 lotion. Fail: Sport SPF 30 (older DailyMed label); Ultra Sport SPF 30 (oxybenzone-free listings); Simply Protect Sensitive Mineral Enriched SPF 50 spray.

DailyMed Banana Boat Kids Mineral Protection SPF 50, dated 16 Aug 2026

Mineral-only, so Maui passes. Palau fails on phenoxyethanol. Retail Kids Mineral bottles can differ.

What this means

Kids Mineral Protection is legal on Maui if zinc and titanium are still the only actives. Palau still fails that lotion on phenoxyethanol. Do not pack Sport or Ultra Sport for Maui. An older Sport label still has oxybenzone and octinoxate, which fail Act 104 too. Newer Ultra Sport drops those two and still fails Maui. Simply Protect says mineral. Zinc is on the panel, and so are chemical filters. That spray is not a Maui bottle. If the actives on your bottle do not match a row, paste them in the checker. A yellow cap is not a verdict.

All places

Palau and the US Virgin Islands are in this table too. Maui and the Big Island use the same mineral-only rule.

Stamps are only on bottles we have dated. Maui and the Big Island share the mineral-only test. Palau can still fail a zinc lotion on phenoxyethanol.
